On the first day of graduate school, I was probably like most students are. Really excited and a little bit nervous. There was still that part of me that was hesitant, and thought that maybe I wouldn't do as well as I thought in my mind. But I'm really glad that I went, because there's that little part of you that's like, well, maybe I just won't go. But, you know, I went over, I walked to class, and I sat down. And I'm like, I can do this. I can do this. And I did.

The MPA program, it starts off small. And then you go through finance, and legislation, and how laws are created. And you get the opportunity to really focus in on your specific area of government that you'd like to focus in on. And so for me, that was public education. The advice that I would give someone considering graduate school, I would say, just do it. Be brave. Go to the website. Fill out the application. You can do it. You're going to be so excited when you're done.

I remember the first time that I went to an undergraduate ceremony, or commencement, and I saw people being hooded. And I was like, what is that? I want one of those fancy things. And so when I got over to the side of the stage and I got to be hooded, it was literally just the cherry on the top. It was the coolest thing. And I was really, really excited that my entire family got to be there. And to witness that, and just for them to show their love and support on that day. Because without them, I wouldn't have finished. And so for them to be there at the end, to celebrate with me, was really exciting.
