Graduate Certificate Program

The graduate certificate program is 18 credit hours and will qualify you to add mild intervention to your Indiana teaching license for the grade level you teach. You must hold a current teaching certificate to complete the coursework for this certificate.

There is a 60-hour field experience requirement for the certification. If you are currently employed by a school system, arrangements can be made for the field experience to be incorporated into the duties of your classroom or school. The last course in the program of study is EDU 59501 which is a practicum in special education. In order to meet the state of Indiana licensing requirements, this practicum must be completed within the duties of the special education teacher (not a general education teacher of an inclusive classroom). You may need to make modifications to your current work position and/or responsibilities. It is important that you discuss your specific situation with a special education faculty advisor.
