Professional Background

Dr. J. Wylie Sirk is the Program Director of the Educational Leadership Program and Associate Director of the School of Education. He has served over 35 years as teacher, principal, and superintendent in PreK-12 schools. His experience has been in urban and rural school districts. He taught both at the elementary level and middle school.

Dr. Sirk has served in leadership roles with professional organizations that include the Indiana Association of Public School Superintendents, Upper Wabash Valley School Study Council, East Central Reading Association, and Region 8 Education Service Center Board. He currently volunteers with Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, Big Goal Collaborative, which is a cradle to career initiative that believes the spectrum of learning must begin with high quality early childhood education and progress through adult learning. Dr. Sirk is on the IDOE Hoosier Family of Readers Advisory Council, as well as, a member of the Indiana Early Learning Advisory Committee Family Engagement Workgroup. In addition, he serves as consultant for Ivy Tech Northeast working with dual credit and the Early College model for high schools. He serves on the Park Center Mental Health of Fort Wayne Board.

His teaching responsibilities include Educational Leadership courses required for principal licensure in Indiana. He is committed to high quality study and leadership for the advancement of strong schools and high level learning.
